Silica SandEquipment and Process Solutions

Core process and corresponding equipment detailed explanation

1. Crushing section: particle size reduction

  • Objective: To crush the large silica ore to a size suitable for grinding.

  • Process: Raw Ore → Jaw Crusher (Rough Crushing)Medium Crushing Plant

  • Core Equipment:

    • Jaw Crusher: The core equipment for primary crushing. Jaw Crusher: The core equipment for primary crushing. Known for its sturdy structure, large capacity and large feed size, it is the ideal choice for crushing high hardness silica, providing stable primary crushing for the whole production line.

    • Intermediate crushing equipment (e.g. cone crusher): It takes over the stone blocks from the jaws and carries out secondary crushing. Through the principle of laminar crushing, the material is crushed to a smaller size (usually <40mm), and provides a uniform feed for the grinding process.

2. Grinding and Classifying Section: Dissociation and Classification

  • Objective: To grind the quartz particles to the target size, and to separate and purify them by classifying equipment.

  • Process: Crushed product → pre-screeningball mill (grinding)desliming hopper (desliming)hindered settler (classifying)

  • Core equipment:

    • Vibrating screen (pre-screening): Screening the materials after crushing, separating part of the qualified size products in advance, optimizing the efficiency of the process and reducing excessive wear and tear of the equipment.

    • Ball Mill: The key equipment in the grinding process. The grinding medium (steel balls) in the cylinder body grinds the silica materials to the required fineness through impact and grinding, and realizes the full dissociation of minerals.

    • Desliming Hopper: Utilizing the principle of gravity settling, it effectively removes the fine particles (sludge) generated after grinding, and improves the efficiency of the subsequent sorting operation and the grade of the concentrate.

    • Blocked settler (hydraulic classifier): Used to accurately classify the slurry after milling, separating products of different particle sizes and controlling the particle size composition of the final product.

3. Selection and purification section: removal of impurities

  • Objective: To remove all kinds of impurity minerals in silica sand, and improve silica content and product whiteness.

  • Flow: Classified products → Plate magnetic separator (roughing)Vertical ring high gradient magnetic separator/pulp magnetic separator (fine separation)[optional] flotation machine (flotation)

  • Core equipment:

    • Plate Magnetic Separator: As the primary stage of magnetic separation, it is mainly used to remove strong magnetic impurities (such as mechanical iron) in materials.

    • Vertical Ring High Gradient Magnetic Separator / Slurry Magnetic Separator: The core equipment for deep impurity removal. It can efficiently remove weak magnetic impurities (such as hematite, limonite, black mica, etc.), and significantly improve the purity and whiteness of silica sand.

    • Spiral chute: utilizing the difference in specific gravity between minerals for sorting, suitable for removing heavy mineral impurities with large specific gravity.

    • Flotation machine: By adding specific flotation chemicals, it can effectively separate quartz from feldspar, mica and other vein minerals, which is an important means to obtain high-grade silica sand.

4. Chemical treatment and dewatering drying section

  • Objective: Deep removal of thin film iron and obtaining a final product with low water content.

  • Process: After selection of sand → acid washingdewatering screen (dewatering)dryer (drying)

  • Core equipment:

    • Acid washing equipment: Reaction of acid (e.g. hydrochloric acid, oxalic acid, etc.) with silica sand in corrosion-resistant containers to dissolve the thin-film iron in the form of iron oxide and further improve the quality of the product.

    • High-frequency dewatering sieve: carry out preliminary mechanical dewatering on the wet sand after acid washing to quickly remove most of the surface water.

    • Drum dryer: Thermal drying of the dewatered silica sand to ensure that the product moisture reaches the standard for transportation and storage. According to the capacity and energy consumption demand, we can choose three-way or single drum dryer.

5. Environmental protection and auxiliary system

  • Objective: To ensure a clean production environment and meet the requirements of environmental protection.

  • Core equipment:

    • Dust collector: Install bag dust collector or pulse dust collector at dust generating points such as crushing, screening, transferring and drying to effectively collect dust and purify the air.

    • Other auxiliary equipment: including feeders, belt conveyors, slurry pumps, mixing tanks, etc., constituting a complete and coherent production system.
